History
Est: 1896
Founded in 1896 with the aim of representing Indian students and the fight against British colonialism, the Oxford Majlis Society lay dormant for a few decades before being revived.

We have a rich history of debate and challenging the status quo: as a student society independent of the University, we survived and thrived through the continuing support and love of our members.

The Society was a once hotspot against the British Raj right at the heart of the Empire. The India Office and the New Scotland Yard kept an eye out for the Society, worried about its Communist sympathies in the mid-1900s

Former members and Presidents include Benazir Bhutto, Manmohan Singh, Solomon Bandaranaike, M. C. Chagla, Govinda Krishna Chettur, Indira Gandhi, K.P.S. Menon, Mohammad Habib, Humayun Kabir, Basanta Kumar Mallik, Frank Moraes, Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy.
